The Cassini spacecrafts narrow-angle camera acquired this image on December 3, 2005, when it was approximately 2.5 million kilometres from Saturn. The natural colour view shows Tethys in front of the globe of Saturn. The thin, dark line of the rings curves around the horizon at the top.
Visible on Tethys are the craters Odysseus (top) and Melanthius (bottom).
Expand (45kb, 1024 x 800) Images taken using red, green and blue spectral filters were combined to create the colour view. Tethys is apparently darker than Saturn at these wavelengths. The edge of the planet appears fuzzy, which may indicate that we are seeing haze layers that are separated from the main cloud deck. The image scale is 15 kilometres per pixel on Saturn and 13 kilometres per pixel on Tethys.
