NGC 7088 (also Baxendell's Nebula) is a non-existent nebula located near the globular cluster Messier 2 in the constellation Aquarius.
The 'nebula' was likely an optical illusion caused by reflections from the globular cluster.
The 'nebula' was discovered by English meteorologist and astronomer Joseph Baxendell using a 15.24 cm (6 inch) Cooke refractor at 14 Liverpool Road, Birkdale, near Southport on the 28th September 1880.

NGC 7088, also known as Baxendell's Unphotographable Nebula is a nebula that was recorded by amateur astronomer Joseph Baxendell on September 28, 1880.
Joseph Baxendell published his discovery in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society of a nebula 25 'north of the globular cluster M2, in the constellation Aquarius. He describes it as having "an irregular oval, the major axis oriented east-west" and a size of 75' x 52'.
