NGC 1017 (also MCG-2-7-47, KUG 0235-112B and PGC 9964) is a magnitude + 14.4 irregular type galaxy located 380 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on September 29, 1886.
