According to the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) a 47-minute malfunction, at 10:59 a.m, Monday, of the Zhongxing 6B (Chinasat 6B) satellite, interrupted the transmission of 150 satellite TV channels in China. The malfunctioning satellite has now resumed normal operations.
China blasted a communications satellite into orbit atop a Long March rocket, state media reported. The domestically made rocket lobbed into orbit a French-made satellite that will improve telecommunications in Asia and over the Pacific.
China today successfully launched a French-made broadcasting satellite to improve transmission of radio and TV broadcast across the vast nation, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Oceania. The "Chinasat 6B" was launched with an indigenous Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 8:08 pm (5:38 pm IST). The satellite separated from the rocket 26 minutes after lift-off, entering its preset orbit, space officials said.
China is preparing to launch the French-made ZX 6B (Chinasat 6B) broadcasting satellite. The satellite based on the Spacebus-4000C2 platform from Alcatel Alenia Space has been moved to the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Fitted with 38 active C-band transponders, the satellite is expected to improve signal transmission for radio and TV stations across China, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Oceania. The 4600 kg Chinasat 6B satellite has a designed lifespan of 15 years. The mission will be the 101st launch by a Chinese Long March 3B launcher.
The Chinese National Space Administration has not given an exact date for the launch.
The China Great Wall Industry Corp. (CGWIC), a satellite launch service contractor, and China Satcom signed a deal on Friday to launch a French-made broadcast satellite.
According to the deal, CGWIC will provide the launch service for China Satcom, the owner of the satellite. The satellite, which will be manufactured by French company Alcatel Alenia Space, is expected to be lifted into space in 2007 atop a Chinese-made rocket Long March 3B from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
With a designed life of 15 years, the satellite, known as "ChinaSat 6B" Radio and TV Satellite, will be fitted with 38 transponder, allowing easy reception of up to 300 television programs across China, southeast Asia, Pacific and Oceania. China's Long March rocket carriers have been used to offer 24 international commercial satellite launch services since 1990, involving 30 satellites and six payload services. The rocket carriers have been enjoyed a reputation of high reliability thanks to their record of 46 successful consecutive launches since Oct., 1996, including the country's two manned space launches. China Satcom, or the China Satellite Communications Corporation, is one of the country's six telecommunications operators in China. Alcatel Space, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alcatel, is the world's third largest satellite manufacturer and the largest in Europe.
