NGC 1091 (also PGC 10424, ESO 546-16, MCG -3-8-13 or HCG 21E)  is a magnitude +14.3 barred spiral galaxy, located 405 million light-years away n the constellation Eridanus.

The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth using a 66.04 cm (26 inch) Alvan Clark & Sons refracting telescope at the Leander McCormick Observatory at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia on the 17th October 1885.

Right Ascension  02h 45m 22.3s, Declination -17° 32' 00"

Francis Leavenworth also discovered galaxies NGC 1092, 1098, 1099 and 1100 (which make up the Hickson Compact Group 21) on the same date.
