NGC 1435 (also Merope Nebula, Tempel's Nebula and Ced 19j) is a magnitude +13.0 diffuse reflection nebula located 440 light-years away in the Pleiades star cluster in the constellation Taurus.
The nebula was discovered by German astronomer Wilhelm Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refracting telescope at the Arcetri Observatory on the 19th October 1859.
The Merope Nebula (also known as Tempel's Nebula and NGC 1435) is a diffuse reflection nebula, possibly a supernova remnant,[2] in the Pleiades star cluster, surrounding the 4th magnitude star Merope. It was discovered on October 19, 1859 by the German astronomer Wilhelm Tempel. John Herschel, in his New General Catalog (NGC), described it as a very faint nebula about the size of the full moon.
