NGC 1042 (also MCG-2-7-54, IRAS 02379-0838, PGC 10122) is a magnitude +11.0 barred spiral galaxy located 63 million light years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 10th November 1885.
