NGC 2179 (also ESO 555-38, LEDA 18453, MCG-04-15-011, SGC 060555-2144.3 and PGC 18453) is a magnitude +12.4 spiral galaxy located 132 million light years away in the constellation Lepus.
The galaxy was discovered by English astronomer John Herschel with an 18-inch f/13 speculum telescope at at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 21st November 1835.
