NGC 1317 (also NGC 1318, PGC 12653, ESO 357-23, MCG -6-8-6, FCC 22, IRAS03208-3716) is a magnitude +11.1 barred spiral galaxy located 55 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax.

The galaxy was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a 22.86 cm (9 inch) reflecting telescope on the 24th November 1826.
The galaxy was rediscovered by Julius Schmidt in 1865 and designated as NGC 1318

Right Ascension 03h 22m 44.2s, Declination -37° 06' 12"
