NGC 185 (also PGC 2329, UGC 396, MCG 8-2-10, GWT 550,9, IRAS00362 4803 and Caldwell 18) is a magnitude +9.3 elliptical galaxy located 2.05 ±0.13 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 30th November 1787.

NGC 185 has an active galactic nucleus (AGN) and is usually classified as a type 2 Seyfert galaxy, though its status as a Seyfert is questioned. It is possibly the closest Seyfert galaxy to Earth, and is the only known Seyfert in the Local Group. Read more
