NGC 259 (also PGC 2820, MCG -01-03-015, IRAS 00455-0302, 2MASX J00480328-0246310, GC 144/145, HIPASS J0048-02) is a magnitude +12.8 barred spiral galaxy located 160 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 13th December 1786.
