NGC 489 (also UGC 908, PGC 4957, MCG+01-04-034, 2MASX J01215390 +0912233) is a magnitude +12.6 edge-on spiral galaxy located 97 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces.
The galaxy was discovered by the German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 22nd December 1862.
