NGC 2240 is a magnitude +11.0? open star cluster of ~20 stars located 5059 light years away in the constellation Auriga.
The cluster was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope Clayhall Farm House in Old Windsor, on the 3rd January 1786.
