NGC 1723 (also PGC 16493, MCG -2-13-29 or IRAS04571-1103) is a magnitude +11.7 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 166.3 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Temple using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) refracting telescope at the Arcetri Observatory on the 12th January 1882.
