NGC 2439 (also Cr 158, Mel 74, ESO 429-SC011, Lund 370 and OCL 688) is a magnitude +6.9 open cluster located 12,573 light-years away in the constellation Puppis. This cluster has an age of about 10 million years. Observationally, this cluster is along the line of sight of two groups of B-type supergiant stars. The nearer group is located at a distance of 1.03 kpc, while the second group is at 3.2 kpc.
The cluster was discovered by English astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 28th January 1835.
