NGC 2899 (also Flying Jaw Nebula, PK 277-3.1, IRAS 09255-5553 and ESO 166-13) is a magnitude +11.8 distorted planetary nebula located 6500 light-years away in the constellation Vela.
The nebula was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 18.6 inch f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 27th February 1835.
