NGC 2686 (also 2686A + NGC 2686B, MCG 8-16-36 + MCG 8-16-37, PGC 25025 and PGC 25026) are a pair of magnitude +15.5 compact galaxies located 701 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.
The galaxies were discovered by astronomer R. J. Mitchell using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) speculum reflector at Birr castle on the 11th March 1858.
