NGC 3686 (also IRAS 11251+1729, MCG 3-29-51, UGC 6460 and PGC 35268) is a magnitude +11.2 spiral galaxy located 53 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. In the sky it can be found roughly 13' northeast of the galaxy NGC 3684.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 14th March 1784.
