NGC 6242 (also OCL 1001, ESO 332-SC10 and Collinder 317) is a magnitude +6.4 open star cluster located 3,689 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius.
The cluster was discovered by French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille using a 1.27 cm (0.5 inch) refractor in South Africa on the 19th March 1751.
