NGC 5478 (also IRAS 14055-0127, MCG 0-36-19, UGC 9034 and PGC 50430) is a magnitude +13.6 face-on spiral galaxy located 346 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 23rd March 1789.
