NGC 3953 (also UGC 6870, and PGC 37306) is a magnitude +10.8 barred spiral galaxy located about 64 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.
The galaxy may have been recorded (as M109 ?) by Charles Messier on the 24th March 1781. NGC 3953 was independently discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 12th April 1789.
The galaxy hasted supernovae: SN 2001dp and SN 2006bp.
