NGC 3542 (also IRAS 11071+3712, MCG 6-25-13 and PGC 33868) is a magnitude +14.2 barred spiral galaxy located 418 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major.
The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the Marseille Observatory on the 26th March 1884.
