NGC 4477 (also IRAS 12275+1354, MCG 2-32-97, UGC 7638 and PGC 41260) is a magnitude +10.4 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 62 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. NGC 4477 is a member of the Markarians Chain, a group of at least seven seemingly inline galaxies in the Virgo Cluster
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire, on the 8th April 1784.
