NGC 4640 (also NGC 4640A, MCG 2-32-190, UGC 7888 and PGC 42753) is a magnitude +13.5 spiral galaxy located 89 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis Swift using a 40.64 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 17th April 1887.
