NGC 5964 (also IC 4551, IRAS 15351+0608, MCG 1-40-8, UGC 9935 and PGC 55637) is a magnitude +12.2 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 67 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 45.72 cm (18 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 24th April 1830. The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift in August 1897, and relisted as IC 4551.
