NGC 5131 (also MCG 5-32-14, UGC 8422 and PGC 46819) is a magnitude +13.5 edge-on spiral galaxy located 305 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.
The galaxy was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 24th April 1865.
