NGC 5423 (also MCG 2-36-17, UGC 8952 and PGC 50028) is a magnitude +12.8 elliptical galaxy located 272 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refractor at the Arcetri Observatory on the 25th April 1883.
