NGC 5774 (also IRAS 14511+0347, MCG 1-38-13, UGC 9576 and PGC 53231) is a magnitude +12.1 spiral galaxy located 71 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. NGC 5774 is at an early stage of a merger with the neighbouring galaxy NGC 5775
The galaxy was discovered by Anglo-Irish astronomer George Johnstone Stoney, assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) speculum reflector at Birr Castle on the 26th April 1851.
