NGC 5956 (also IRAS 15326+1154, MCG 2-40-3, UGC 9908 and PGC 55501) is a magnitude +12.3 face-on spiral galaxy located 87 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 29th April 1865.
