NGC 5173 (also MCG 8-25-5, UGC 8468 and PGC 47257) is a magnitude +12.2 elliptical galaxy located 111 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 12th May 1787.
