NGC 6204 (also ESO 277-SC10, Collinder 312 and OCL 982) is a magnitude +8.2 open star cluster that contains at least 70 stars located 3,540 light-years away in the constellation Ara.
The best time for observation is in the evening sky between June and October.
The cluster was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a 22.86 cm (9 inch) f/12 reflecting telescope at Paramatta, New South Wales, on the 13th May 1826.
