NGC 3201 (also ESO 263-SC26 and GCL 15) is a magnitude +8.24 low galactic latitude globular cluster located 16,300 light-years away in the constellation Vela. The clusters stellar population is inhomogeneous, with the redder and cooler stars tending to be located closer to the core. The effective stellar temperatures increase with greater distance from the core.
The cluster was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot 23 cm (9-inch) speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta (now named Parramatta), New South Wales, on the 28th May 1826.
