NGC 5991 (also MCG 4-37-28 and PGC 55953) is a magnitude 14.0 barred spiral galaxy located 312 million light-years away in the constellation Serpens.
The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Jean-Marie Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflecting telescope on the 13th June 1879.
