NGC 6993 (also ESO 529-11, IRAS 20509-2539, MCG -4-49-7 and PGC 65671) is a magnitude +13.1 spiral galaxy located 279 million light-years in the constellation Capricornus.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth using a 66.04 cm (26 inch) refracting telescope at the Leander McCormick observatory on the 8th July 1885.
