NGC 6836 (also IRAS 19518-1249, MCG -2-50-10 and PGC 63803) is a magnitude +12.9 barred spiral galaxy located 75 million light-years away in the constellation of Sagittarius.
The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the the Marseille Observatory on the 2nd August 1881.
