NGC 561 (also IRAS 01254+3403, MCG 6-4-29, UGC 1048 and PGC 5489) is a magnitude +12.9 barred spiral galaxy located 215 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 23rd August 1862.
