NGC 98 (also ESO 242-5 and PGC 1463) is a magnitude +12.7 barred spiral galaxy located 284 million light-years away in the constellation Phoenix.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 (6.4 m focal length) speculum reflecting telescope reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 6th September 1834.
