NGC 49 (also CGCG 549-029, MCG+08-01-033, UGC 136 and PGC 952) is a magnitude +14.1 lenticular galaxy located 225 ±16 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 7th September 1885.
