NGC 124 (also IRAS 00253-0205, MCG 0-2-38, UGC 271 and PGC 1715) is a magnitude +13.4 spiral galaxy located 187 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.

The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Truman Henry Safford using a 46.99 cm (18.5 inch) refractor at the Dearborn Observatory on the 23rd September 1867.
The galaxy was rediscovered by German astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refracting telescope at the Arcetri Observatory on the 27th September 1880. 

Right Ascension 00h 27m 52.3s, Declination -01° 48' 37"
