NGC 953 (also MCG 5-7-1, UGC 1991 and PGC 9586) is a magnitude +14.5 elliptical galaxy located 217 million light-years away in the constellation Triangulum.
The galaxy is in the process of collision with the spiral galaxy IC 1801 (known as UGC 1936 and PGC 9392). The interacting galaxies have been listed in the Catalogue of peculiar galaxies as Arp 276.

The galaxy was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 26th September 1865.
