NGC 252 (also IRAS 00453+2721, MCG 4-3-4, UGC 491 and PGC 2819) is a magnitude +12.4 spiral galaxy located 227 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 26th October 1786.
