NGC 42 (also MCG 4-1-41, UGC 118 or PGC 867) is a magnitude +13.8 elliptical galaxy located 275 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Albert Marth using a 121.92 cm (48 inch) reflector at William Lassell's Tigné Point observatory in Sliema, Malta on the 30th October 1864.
