NGC 1549 (also ESO 157-16 and PGC 14757) is a magnitude +9.8 elliptical galaxy located 58 million light-years away in the constellation Dorado.
The galaxy forms an interactive pair with the distant NGC 1553.

The galaxy was likely first dicovered by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot 22.86 cm (9 inch) f/12 speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta, New South Wales, Australia, on the 5th November 1826.
The galaxy was rediscovered by the British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 6th December 1834.
