NGC 5949 (also UGC 9866, MCG 11-19-8, IRAS15273 +6456 and PGC 55165) is a magnitude +12.0 inclined barred spiral galaxy located 20 million light-years away in the constellation Draco.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 28th November 1801. This was one of Herschels last discoveries.
