NGC 6856 is an open cluster or possibly an asterism, located 5558 ±258 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.
NGC 6856 was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 24th September 1829.
