This image was taken by the Cassini spaceprobe on April 14, 2006 and received on Earth April 15, 2006. The camera was pointing toward Pallene.

The image was taken using the CL1 and CL2 filters.

Pallene is a natural satellite of Saturn. It was discovered by the Cassini Imaging team led by Carolyn C. Porco, et al. in 2004, and given the temporary designation S/2004 S 2.
The tiny moon Pallene lies just beyond Methone between the orbits of Mimas and Enceladus. Pallene orbits within the E ring of Saturn at a distance of about 211,000 kilometres (thus its period is 1.144 days) and is about 4 kilometres in diameter. It is also designated as Saturn XXXIII.

It was seen first on August 23, 1981 by Voyager 2 in a single photograph and named S/1981 S 14.

Very little is known about this moon.
