Bulusan Volcano erupts anew, residents and aircraft warned

Thousands of people fled their homes following an ash eruption from an active volcano in the eastern Philippines Sunday, civil defence officials said. After an ash explosion last Saturday, more volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon today, but the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said there is no imminent threat of a major eruption. Officials on Tuesday ordered the evacuation of residents near Mount Bulusan as heavy rains triggered lahar flow from the volcano. Henry Imperial, senior science research assistant of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), said barangays Cogon and Monbon in Irosin town are affected by the lahar flow. He said the lahar was only flowing to river channels.
