A strong magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred at 11:11:38 (UTC) on Thursday, August 17, 2006, near the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, 280 km WNW of Nikol'skoye, Komandorskiye Ostrova, at a depth of 84.9 km.
