Carnegie Institution planetary-formation theorist, and 1997 National Medal of Science recipient, George Wetherill, died from heart failure on July 19, 2006, at his Washington, D.C., home. Wetherill revolutionised our understanding of how our planets and solar system formed through his theoretical models.
