A bright magnitude 14.7 (and rising) supernova, 2006ej, was discovered on the 23rd August 2006, by the Lick Observatory Supernova Search, (R. Mostardi, H. Khandrika, and W. Li ) in the spiral galaxy NGC 191A in the constellation Cetus.
The supernova is located 6.2" west and 4.6" south of the nucleus. As yet the Type is unknown
KAIT images taken on Aug. 23.39 UT show the supernova at magnitude 16.4, and at 24.38 UT at magnitude 14.7. NGC 191A (= IC 1563) is the southeast component of the interacting galaxy pair Arp 127; the other component is NGC 191.
